On-Site Programs

Pioneer Farms offers half-day educational field trips on a first-come, first-served basis for teachers of grades K-8. Pioneer Farms is a non-profit historical education organization, a 90-plus-acre working farm featuring three fully restored 1800s farmsteads and a First Texans historic site. It is also a designated City of Austin historical landmark. Its diverse landscape — including its farmyards, meadows, woodlots, pastures, gardens and pond — creates an inspiring campus for discovery and exploration by students about history, nature and sustainable ecosystems. See our Programs Schedule for a complete list of the offerings. A reservation form to book a tour date is included in the Programs Schedule.

Outreach Programs

Use your school classroom, local nature areas or community to cultivate your students’ sense of place and enhance their appreciation for their human and natural communities. Pioneer Farms educational outreach can bring many of our field trip topics to you, through our Traveling History Trunks and our Eco-Education Materials. These outreach opportunities provide hands-on, real-world learning experiences while making a direct connection to your curriculum.

Scholarships

We offer students in Title 1 schools reduced and free admission fees to our history and nature programs to allow groups who might not otherwise be able to afford it to enrich and extend their learning opportunities. Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited numbers of scholarships for free admission are available each semester. Check the appropriate box on the registration form if your school qualifies for a scholarship. You must confirm your Title 1 status at the time of registration to qualify for any scholarships or reduced admission fees.

Directions

Pioneer Farms is located at 10621 Pioneer Farms Drive in northeast Austin, just east of Interstate 35. Exit I-35 at Braker Lane, go east and follow the signs. From Parmer Lane, a mile north of Braker, go east to Dessau Road (third traffic light), turn right and go to Braker Lane East (first traffic light).

Accessibility

Pioneer Farms wants everyone to be able to enjoy themselves as they step back in time to the Blackland Prairie of the 1800s. Most, but not all, of the historic buildings are accessible by wheelchair. However, buildings and walkways are authentic to the 19th Century, which may impose certain restrictions. Graveled paths in the historic areas may be difficult for wheelchair travel. Handicapped parking is available close to the Front Gate at Sprinkle Corner.
