In addition to the hundreds of volunteer staffers who keep Pioneer Farms humming, we also have a dedicated corps of animals that are just as important, as we tell the story of nineteenth-century Texas. We need your help to provide them with the best care possible, especially during the coronavirus emergency.
Well over $12,000 a year is spent to ensure our Barnyard Buddies have the best diet and healthcare, so we can give them the proper environment that allows them to help visitors experience nineteenth-century Texas history — especially at this trying time. One hundred percent of your donations here go to our animal program.

Henry
I'm the head donkey and I love to sing. Most days, you can hear me serenading the girls. I also like to greet people at the fence behind the Bell House.
Moondoggie
As boss of the Pioneer Farms horses, I'm laid back and friendly. When I go out for rides, I like to stop frequently and then wait before I start walking again.
Big Red
I'm the No. 2 longhorn in the herd and, while I'm quieter than some of my fellow cows, I always like to see visitors who think I'm still on the Chisholm Trail.
Kit
I was born at Pioneer Farms in 2007, and love it here. Everyone says I'm a real sweetheart, and I love to beg for treats and extra rubbing by my handlers.
Vince
I'm named for Vince Young, so I'm a big UT Longhorn fan. I'm also the herd boss, so I can look at the other steers and they get out of my way without my asking.
Oreo
I'm Big Red's best friend, and she I are always near each other. She is so nice. I like living at Pioneer Farms because we have our own pasture and our herd rocks!
Jackson
Compared to my buddy Henry, I'm quiet and love to to watch people from my shade tree. Come by the Cotton Planter's Farm and visit me anytime.
Dillie
They say I was an uh-oh birth in 2013 after my dad, Henry, jumped the fence and joined my mother Kit overnight. Everybody says I'm a real sweetheart.
Luna
I live at the Texian Farm with my mom, Kit, and sister Dillie. I'm generally reserved, but love to see people and my feeders.
Bailey
I'm a very smart horse and, while I enjoy going for rides, I want to pick the direction of speed of the ride. My handlers say that's because I'm opinionated.
Major
I love to find the greenest grass in my pasture and always lead the rest of the herd there. I'm named for Major Applewhite, and a big University of Texas fan.
Little Red
I may be the smallest cow in the Pioneer Farms' herd, but I'm the most vocal. I call out to my feeders for more hay, and often greet visitors with a big mooooo!
