AUSTIN MUSEUM DAY: Sunday, September 22

Come celebrate Texas history at the one place in Central Texas where Lone Star history is real just as it was in the 1800s. And on this one day, you can see, touch, and feel that history for free.

Hours on this one special free-admission day are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In our historic Wessels dance hall, the iconic Texas singer Evelyn Billington, known as the Yodeling Coyote Cowgirl, will perform True Texas tunes starting at 10:30 a.m. You can see 19th-century activities and chores at our restored history sites, and even help out with some if you like.

Farm animals ranging from chickens and turkeys to donkeys, horses, and Longhorn cattle, can be seen in their native frontier environment. In our cute Sprinkle Corner entrance village, our blacksmiths will be forging red-hot metal and hammering historical demonstrations all day.

Tour our Freedman’s Farm which is currently under restoration for an idea of what it takes to save important Texas history one board at a time. Visit new exhibits and displays including our 1890s Telegraph Station and Post Office and a just-restored 1876 community church (where Elvis Presley once sang hymns during the 1950s).

Most of all, come out and enjoy Texas history! For free.
