Gone to Texas
Gone to Texas
Offered Tuesdays-Fridays, year-round.
The early settlers to Texas relied on hard work and specialized skills to make their homes on the frontier, and this tour offers participants the opportunity to see their daily chores in action, more than our other guided history tours.
Interpreters dressed for the 1800s will engage in daily activities at one or more of our history sites, including the 1886 cotton planter's farm, the 1878 homestead of settlers from Tennessee and a one-room cabin built by German emigrants. Groups will be responsible for moving from one site to another on a timed schedule.
Along the way visitors will also get to meet animals common to 19th century Texas farms. Our other history sites will be open for self-guided tours after the planned activity stations.
The number of historical demonstrations will depend on the size of your group: One activity for groups of 20-49, two activities for groups of 50-99, three activities for groups of 100+. Demonstrations will be timed so everyone can get a chance to see and explore all of the 1800s demonstrations. For larger groups some stations will be duplicated to allow time for everyone to visit each type of demonstration. Pioneer Farms will determine the number and types of demonstrations during your visit.
