ABANA Certification
For students serious about blacksmithing, this course covers the nationally recognized Artists Blacksmithing Association Level 1 Curriculum. The basics of forging, heat treating, tool making and forge welding all covered in this 12-session series taught in our Village Smithy.
At the end the student will have or is ready to complete all the requirements for their Level 1 certification and have a start on a set of handmade blacksmithing tools. The course has 12 instructor led classes and access to Thursday evening Open Shop practice nights for the duration of the class.
Spring Class Dates in 2024: Instruction on Mondays from March 4 through May 27 from 6-9 p.m. (No class on April 8.) Open Shop Practice on Thursdays from March 7 through May 30 from 5:30-9 p.m.
Fall Class Dates in 2024: Instruction on Mondays from August 19 through November 18 from 6-9 p.m. (No class on September 2 & 23.) Open Shop Practice on Thursdays from August 22 through November 21 from 5:30-9 p.m.
Students should wear a cotton or other natural-fiber shirt (long sleeves optional), long pants or jeans, and work boots or close-toed shoes. Bring a bottle of water and a sack lunch. A 30-minute lunch break will be given. Gourmet sandwiches, chips and drinks are available for purchase in the General Store.
Class is designed for students ages 18 and older. Students aged 15-17 years old may enroll so long as a parent or legal guardian signs the attendance release form at the beginning of the class. Youths ages 12-14 may enroll if a parent or legal guardian enrolls in and takes the class with the younger student. No exceptions.
Enrollment must be completed at least one week before class date. All enrollments are subject to availability.
Important notice: No refunds are allowed once the enrollment fee is received. All sessions are held once in 2024. Students can enroll on a space-available basis.
